Sermon on
Building Character

1. Understanding the Importance of Character

1.1 Defining Character: The Inner Quality Character is the inner quality that defines who we truly are, beyond our physical appearance or public reputation. It is the essence of our being, the moral and ethical fiber that shapes our actions and attitudes. Proverbs 20:11

1.2 The Biblical Significance of Character: The Bible places great emphasis on character. It is through our character that we reflect the image of God and demonstrate the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Galatians 5:22-23

2. The Role of Trials in Building Character

2.1 Trials as Refining Fire: Trials are not meant to break us, but to shape us. They serve as a refining fire, purifying and strengthening our character. James 1:2-4

2.2 Perseverance in Trials: Perseverance in trials is a key aspect of character building. As we remain steadfast in faith amidst challenges, our character is molded and matured. Romans 5:3-4

3. The Influence of the Holy Spirit in Building Character

3.1 The Holy Spirit as our Guide: The Holy Spirit is our guide in the journey of character building. He convicts us of sin, leads us into truth, and empowers us to live godly lives. John 16:13

3.2 The Fruit of the Spirit: The fruit of the Spirit is the manifestation of God's character in our lives. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, His fruit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control - is produced in us. Galatians 5:22-23

4. The Role of God's Word in Building Character

4.1 The Word as a Mirror: God's Word serves as a mirror that reveals our true character. It exposes our flaws and guides us towards transformation. James 1:23-25

4.2 The Word as a Lamp: God's Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. It illuminates our way and instructs us in righteousness, aiding in the development of godly character. Psalm 119:105

5. The Impact of Character on Our Witness

5.1 Character and Testimony: Our character greatly influences our testimony. A godly character enhances our witness for Christ, while a flawed character can undermine it. Matthew 5:16

5.2 Character and Influence: Our character also affects our influence on others. A person of good character can positively impact others and lead them towards Christ. 1 Timothy 4:12
