Sermon on
Disunity and Strife

1. Understanding Disunity and Strife

1.1 Defining Disunity: Disunity is a state of discord, disagreement, or conflict among individuals or groups. It is the opposite of unity and harmony. 1 Corinthians 1:10

1.2 Defining Strife: Strife is a state of conflict, contention, or struggle. It is often characterized by bitterness, resentment, or hostility. James 3:16

2. The Causes of Disunity and Strife

2.1 Sin and Selfish Ambition: Sin and selfish ambition are often at the root of disunity and strife. When we prioritize our own desires above God's will or the needs of others, conflict inevitably arises. James 4:1-2

2.2 Lack of Love and Understanding: A lack of love and understanding can also lead to disunity and strife. When we fail to love others as Christ loves us, or when we fail to seek understanding before passing judgment, we contribute to division and conflict. 1 Peter 4:8

3. The Consequences of Disunity and Strife

3.1 Hindrance to the Gospel: Disunity and strife among believers can hinder the spread of the Gospel. When non-believers see conflict within the church, it can discourage them from accepting the message of Christ. John 13:35

3.2 Destruction of Relationships: Disunity and strife can also lead to the breakdown of relationships. Conflict can cause deep wounds and create barriers that are difficult to overcome. Proverbs 16:28

4. Overcoming Disunity and Strife

4.1 Repentance and Forgiveness: The first step in overcoming disunity and strife is repentance and forgiveness. We must acknowledge our sins, seek God's forgiveness, and extend forgiveness to those who have wronged us. Colossians 3:13

4.2 Love and Understanding: We must also strive to love and understand one another. This involves putting aside our own desires and seeking the good of others. Philippians 2:3-4

4.3 Unity in Christ: Finally, we must remember that we are all one in Christ. Despite our differences, we are all members of the body of Christ, and we should strive to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:3
