Sermon on
God's Definition of "Right"

1. God's Standard of Righteousness

1.1 Understanding God's Holiness: God is perfectly holy, meaning He is without sin. His holiness sets the standard for what is right. Isaiah 6:3

1.2 God's Law as a Reflection of His Righteousness: God's law, as given in the Bible, is a reflection of His righteousness and holiness. It provides us with a clear definition of what is right in His eyes. Psalm 119:172

1.3 The High Standard of God's Righteousness: God's standard of righteousness is so high that no human can attain it on their own. We all fall short of His glory. Romans 3:23

2. The Righteousness of Christ

2.1 Christ as the Embodiment of God's Righteousness: Jesus Christ, as God incarnate, perfectly embodies God's righteousness. He lived a sinless life, fulfilling God's law perfectly. 2 Corinthians 5:21

2.2 Christ's Righteousness Imputed to Believers: Through faith in Christ, His righteousness is imputed to believers. This means that God sees us as righteous because of our faith in Christ, not because of our own works. Romans 4:5

2.3 Living in Righteousness Through Christ: As believers, we are called to live in righteousness, following the example of Christ. This involves daily surrender and obedience to God's will. 1 Peter 2:24

3. The Role of the Holy Spirit in Righteousness

3.1 The Holy Spirit Convicts Us of Righteousness: The Holy Spirit works in our hearts to convict us of God's righteousness and our need for a Savior. John 16:8

3.2 The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Live Righteously: The Holy Spirit also empowers us to live righteously, giving us the strength to resist sin and live in obedience to God's law. Romans 8:13

3.3 The Fruit of the Spirit as Evidence of Righteousness: The fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, are evidence of a life lived in righteousness. Galatians 5:22-23

4. The Pursuit of Righteousness

4.1 Seeking First God's Kingdom and His Righteousness: As believers, we are called to seek first God's kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that all our needs will be provided for. Matthew 6:33

4.2 Righteousness as a Lifelong Pursuit: The pursuit of righteousness is a lifelong journey, involving daily repentance, faith, and obedience to God's will. Philippians 3:12-14

4.3 The Reward of Righteousness: God promises to reward those who seek righteousness, both in this life and in the life to come. Matthew 5:6
