Sermon on
Righteousness as Obedience to God's Law

1. Understanding Righteousness

1.1 Defining Righteousness: Righteousness is the quality of being morally right or justifiable in the eyes of God. It is a state of moral perfection required by God to enter heaven. Romans 3:22

1.2 The Source of Righteousness: Our righteousness comes from God alone through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot achieve righteousness through our own efforts. Philippians 3:9

1.3 The Role of Righteousness: Righteousness is essential in our relationship with God. It is the foundation of God's throne and the basis of His justice. Psalm 89:14

2. The Law and Righteousness

2.1 The Purpose of the Law: The law was given to us by God to guide us towards righteousness. It shows us what is right and wrong in God's eyes. Romans 7:12

2.2 The Law as a Mirror: The law serves as a mirror, reflecting our sinfulness and our need for God's righteousness. James 1:23-25

2.3 The Law and Grace: The law does not contradict grace, but rather points us to our need for grace. Through the law, we realize our inability to achieve righteousness on our own and our need for God's grace. Galatians 3:24

3. Obedience to God's Law

3.1 Obedience as an Act of Love: Our obedience to God's law is an expression of our love for Him. If we love God, we will keep His commandments. John 14:15

3.2 Obedience and Faith: Obedience to God's law is a demonstration of our faith in Him. Faith without works is dead. James 2:26

3.3 Obedience and Blessings: God blesses those who obey His law. Obedience leads to blessings and prosperity. Deuteronomy 28:1-2

4. The Role of the Holy Spirit in Righteousness

4.1 The Holy Spirit and Conviction: The Holy Spirit convicts us of righteousness, showing us our need for God's righteousness. John 16:8

4.2 The Holy Spirit and Empowerment: The Holy Spirit empowers us to live righteously, giving us the strength to obey God's law. Romans 8:13

4.3 The Holy Spirit and Guidance: The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth, helping us understand and apply God's law in our lives. John 16:13

5. Living Righteously in a Fallen World

5.1 The Challenge of Living Righteously: Living righteously in a fallen world is challenging, but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

5.2 The Power of Righteous Living: Righteous living has the power to influence others and bring glory to God. Matthew 5:16

5.3 The Reward of Righteous Living: God promises eternal life to those who live righteously. Matthew 25:46
