The Biblical Definition of Anointing

 

1. Understanding the Concept of Anointing

1.1 The literal meaning of anointing: To smear or rub with oil, typically as part of a religious ceremony. Exodus 30:30

1.2 The spiritual significance of anointing: It signifies being chosen and empowered by God for a specific purpose. 1 Samuel 16:13

1.3 Anointing in the Old Testament: Kings, priests, and prophets were anointed to symbolize God's blessing and authorization for their roles. 1 Kings 19:16

1.4 Anointing in the New Testament: Jesus Christ was anointed by God, and all believers are also anointed in Him. (Acts 10 38, (2 Corinthians 1 21) 2 Corinthians 1:21

2. The Anointing of Jesus Christ

2.1 Jesus as the Anointed One: The term "Christ" means "the Anointed One". Jesus was anointed by God to fulfill His divine mission. Luke 4:18
