Sermon on
The Biblical Definition of Righteousness

1. Understanding Righteousness

1.1 Defining Righteousness: Righteousness is a state of moral perfection required by God to enter heaven. It is a state of being right with God and living in accordance with His commandments. Romans 3:22

1.2 The Origin of Righteousness: Righteousness originates from God and is a gift that He bestows upon those who believe in Him. It is not something that can be achieved by human efforts or good works. Romans 5:17

2. The Role of Faith in Righteousness

2.1 Righteousness Through Faith: The Bible teaches that righteousness is obtained through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not based on our actions or deeds, but on our belief in Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Romans 3:22

2.2 The Relationship Between Faith and Righteousness: Faith and righteousness are inseparable. Without faith, it is impossible to please God and attain righteousness. Our faith in Christ makes us righteous before God. Hebrews 11:6

3. The Impact of Righteousness on Our Lives

3.1 Righteousness and Peace: When we are righteous, we experience peace with God. This peace surpasses all understanding and guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

3.2 Righteousness and Joy: Righteousness brings joy in the Holy Spirit. This joy is not dependent on our circumstances, but is a result of our relationship with God. Romans 14:17

4. The Pursuit of Righteousness

4.1 Seeking First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness: Jesus instructs us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. This means prioritizing our relationship with God and living in accordance with His will. Matthew 6:33

4.2 Living Righteously in a Fallen World: Living righteously in a fallen world requires us to stand firm in our faith and resist temptation. It involves living a life that is pleasing to God, even when it is difficult. 1 Peter 2:24

5. The Reward of Righteousness

5.1 Eternal Life: The ultimate reward of righteousness is eternal life. Those who are righteous will inherit eternal life and dwell in the presence of God forever. Matthew 25:46

5.2 Inheritance in the Kingdom of God: Righteousness leads to an inheritance in the kingdom of God. This inheritance is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for those who are righteous. 1 Peter 1:4
