Sermon on
The Heart Can Be Cleansed and Renewed

1. The Condition of the Human Heart

1.1 The heart is naturally sinful: The Bible teaches that every human heart is naturally sinful and corrupt. This is the result of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Jeremiah 17:9

1.2 The heart is deceitful: Our hearts can deceive us, leading us to believe that we are good and righteous when in fact we are living in sin. Jeremiah 17:9

1.3 The heart is desperately wicked: Without God, our hearts are not just sinful, but desperately wicked, capable of all manner of evil. Jeremiah 17:9

2. The Need for a Clean Heart

2.1 To see God: The Bible tells us that only the pure in heart will see God. Therefore, if we want to see God, our hearts must be cleansed from sin. Matthew 5:8

2.2 To serve God: God requires a clean heart in order to serve Him. We cannot serve God effectively if our hearts are filled with sin. Psalm 51:10

2.3 To experience true joy and peace: A clean heart brings joy and peace that surpasses all understanding. Psalm 51:10

3. God's Provision for a Clean Heart

3.1 The sacrifice of Jesus: Jesus died on the cross to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. His blood washes away our sins and purifies our hearts. John 1:7

3.2 The work of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and leads us to repentance. He also empowers us to live a life of holiness and righteousness. John 16:8

3.3 The Word of God: The Word of God cleanses us and renews our minds. As we read and meditate on God's Word, our hearts are transformed. Ephesians 5:26

4. The Process of Heart Cleansing

4.1 Repentance: The first step to having a clean heart is to acknowledge our sins and repent. This means turning away from our sinful ways and turning to God. Acts 3:19

4.2 Faith in Christ: We must believe in Jesus Christ, accepting His sacrifice for our sins and His lordship over our lives. Acts 16:31

4.3 Obedience to God's Word: As we obey God's Word, our hearts are cleansed and we grow in holiness. John 15:3

5. The Result of a Clean Heart

5.1 A new creation: When our hearts are cleansed, we become a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17

5.2 Fruit of the Spirit: A clean heart produces the fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23

5.3 Eternal life: Ultimately, a clean heart leads to eternal life with God. Romans 6:23
