Sermon on
To Guard Against Deception

1. Understanding the Nature of Deception

1.1 Recognizing the subtlety of deception: Deception is often subtle, not blatant. It can creep into our lives without us even realizing it. We must be vigilant and discerning to recognize it. Genesis 3:1

1.2 Acknowledging the source of deception: The source of all deception is Satan, the father of lies. He uses deception to lead us away from God's truth. John 8:44

1.3 Understanding the consequences of deception: Deception leads to sin, and sin leads to death. It is a serious matter that we must guard against. James 1:15

2. Guarding Against Deception with God's Word

2.1 Studying God's Word: We guard against deception by studying God's Word. It is our source of truth and our defense against lies. Psalm 119:105

2.2 Meditating on God's Word: We must not only read God's Word but also meditate on it. This helps us to internalize its truths and apply them to our lives. Joshua 1:8

2.3 Living out God's Word: We must not just be hearers of the Word, but doers. Living out God's Word is a powerful way to guard against deception. James 1:22

3. Relying on the Holy Spirit

3.1 The Holy Spirit as our guide: The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth and helps us discern deception. We must rely on Him. John 16:13

3.2 The Holy Spirit as our teacher: The Holy Spirit teaches us all things and reminds us of God's Word. This equips us to guard against deception. John 14:26

3.3 The Holy Spirit as our helper: The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness, including our susceptibility to deception. We must lean on Him. Romans 8:26

4. Cultivating a Love for Truth

4.1 Loving truth more than comfort: Sometimes the truth is uncomfortable, but we must love it more than our comfort. This guards us against deception. 2 Thessalonians 2:10

4.2 Rejecting lies and half-truths: We must reject all forms of lies and half-truths, no matter how appealing they may seem. This is part of loving the truth. Proverbs 14:5

4.3 Embracing truth in all areas of life: We must embrace truth in all areas of our lives, not just in our religious beliefs. This holistic approach guards us against deception. Ephesians 4:25
