Sermon on
To Reflect God's Image

1. Understanding God's Image

1.1 God's Image Defined: God's image is His divine nature and attributes reflected in us. We are created in His likeness, meaning we are designed to reflect His character, love, righteousness, and holiness. Genesis 1:27

1.2 God's Image in Man: When God created man, He breathed into him His own life, making man a living soul. This divine breath is what separates us from the rest of creation and gives us the capacity to reflect God's image. Genesis 2:7

1.3 God's Image Marred: Sin has marred God's image in us, causing us to fall short of His glory. However, through Christ, we can be restored and transformed to reflect God's image once again. (Romans 3 23; (2 Corinthians 3 18) 2 Corinthians 3:18

2. Reflecting God's Image in Our Lives

2.1 Through Christ: Jesus Christ is the perfect image of God. By accepting Him as our Lord and Savior, we are made new and enabled to reflect God's image. (Colossians 1 15; (2 Corinthians 5 17) 2 Corinthians 5:17

2.2 Through the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit works in us to transform us into the image of Christ. As we yield to His leading, we become more like Christ and reflect God's image more clearly. (Galatians 5 22-23; (Romans 8 29) Romans 8:29

2.3 Through God's Word: God's Word is a mirror that shows us who we are and who we should be. As we meditate on it and obey it, we are transformed into the image of God. James 1:23-25

3. The Impact of Reflecting God's Image

3.1 On Our Relationship with God: Reflecting God's image enhances our relationship with Him. We become more intimate with God as we reflect His character and nature. 1 John 1:3

3.2 On Our Relationships with Others: Reflecting God's image affects our relationships with others. We become more loving, forgiving, and patient, just like God. Ephesians 4:32

3.3 On Our Influence in the World: Reflecting God's image increases our influence in the world. We become salt and light, bringing God's flavor and illumination to a dark and tasteless world. Matthew 5:13-16

4. The Call to Reflect God's Image

4.1 A Personal Call: Reflecting God's image is a personal call. Each one of us is called to reflect God's image in our own unique way. 1 Peter 2:9

4.2 A Collective Call: Reflecting God's image is also a collective call. As the body of Christ, we are called to reflect God's image together, showing the world what God is like. 1 Corinthians 12:27

4.3 A Continuous Call: Reflecting God's image is a continuous call. It is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey of becoming more like Christ. Philippians 3:12-14
