Sermon on
Understanding the Concept of Eternal Life

1. Defining Eternal Life

1.1 Eternal life as a gift from God: God's grace and mercy are the reasons for the gift of eternal life. It is not something we can earn or deserve, but a gift freely given by God through faith in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9

1.2 Eternal life as knowing God and Jesus Christ: Eternal life is not just about living forever, but about knowing and having a relationship with God and Jesus Christ. This relationship starts now and continues into eternity. John 17:3

2. The Assurance of Eternal Life

2.1 Assurance through faith in Jesus Christ: Believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior gives us the assurance of eternal life. Our faith in Christ's death and resurrection is the basis of this assurance. John 3:16

2.2 Assurance through the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit, who dwells in every believer, is our guarantee of eternal life. The Spirit is a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Ephesians 1:13-14

3. The Reality of Eternal Life

3.1 Eternal life begins now: Eternal life is not something that starts when we die, but begins the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior. It is a quality of life that starts now and continues forever. John 5:24

3.2 Eternal life means eternal fellowship with God: Eternal life means being in the presence of God forever. It is about enjoying an unbroken fellowship with God, free from sin and death. Revelation 21:3-4

4. The Implication of Eternal Life

4.1 Eternal life influences our perspective on death: Understanding eternal life changes our perspective on death. Death is not the end, but a transition into a fuller and more glorious life with God. 1 Corinthians 15:54-57

4.2 Eternal life shapes our values and priorities: Eternal life should shape our values and priorities. Knowing that we have eternal life should lead us to live for God's glory and not for worldly pleasures. Colossians 3:1-2

5. The Call to Eternal Life

5.1 The call to accept Jesus Christ: The call to eternal life is a call to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Only through faith in Christ can we receive this gift of eternal life. John 14:6

5.2 The call to share the good news: Having received the gift of eternal life, we are called to share this good news with others. We are commissioned to make disciples of all nations, leading others to the knowledge of eternal life in Christ. Matthew 28:19-20
