Understanding the Nature of Satan

 

1. Satan's Origin and Fall

1.1 Satan was originally an angel named Lucifer, created by God Isaiah 14:12

1.2 Lucifer was cast out of heaven due to his pride and rebellion against God Ezekiel 28:15-17

1.3 Lucifer became Satan, the adversary of God and His people Isaiah 14:12

2. Satan's Character

2.1 Satan is a liar and the father of lies John 8:44

2.2 He is a murderer, seeking to steal, kill, and destroy John 10:10

2.3 Satan is a deceiver, who blinds the minds of unbelievers 2 Corinthians 4:4

2.4 He is an accuser of the brethren, who accuses them before God day and night Revelation 12:10

3. Satan's Activities

3.1 Satan tempts people to sin, as he did with Eve in the Garden of Eden Genesis 3:1-5

3.2 He seeks to hinder the work of God, as he did with Paul 1 Thessalonians 2:18

3.3 Satan sows tares among the wheat, causing confusion and discord among God's people Matthew 13:39

3.4 He takes people captive to do his will 2 Timothy 2:26

4. Satan's Limitations

4.1 Satan is not omnipotent, he is limited by God's power Job 1:12

4.2 He is not omnipresent, he can only be in one place at a time Job 1:7

4.3 Satan is not omniscient, he does not know everything 1 Corinthians 2:8

5. Satan's Defeat

5.1 Satan was defeated at the cross by Jesus Christ Colossians 2:15

5.2 Believers have authority over Satan through the name of Jesus Luke 10:19

5.3 Satan will be cast into the lake of fire at the end of time Revelation 20:10
