Sermon on
Value the Anointing Over Gifts and Talents

1. Understanding the Anointing

1.1 What is the Anointing?: The anointing is the divine empowerment bestowed upon believers by the Holy Spirit. It is not a natural talent or a learned skill, but a supernatural gift from God. It enables us to carry out God's work effectively and powerfully. 1 John 2:27

1.2 The Purpose of the Anointing: The anointing serves to equip believers for service, to bring glory to God, and to advance His Kingdom. It is not for personal gain or self-promotion, but for the benefit of others and the glory of God. Isaiah 61:1

2. The Difference Between Anointing and Talents

2.1 Talents are Natural, Anointing is Supernatural: Talents are natural abilities that we are born with or have developed over time. The anointing, however, is a supernatural empowerment that comes from God. It transcends our natural abilities and enables us to do what we could not do on our own. Exodus 31:3

2.2 Talents can be Wasted, Anointing is for Service: Talents can be used for personal gain or wasted on selfish pursuits. The anointing, however, is given for the purpose of serving others and advancing God's Kingdom. It is not to be wasted or used for selfish gain. 1 Peter 4:10

3. The Importance of Valuing the Anointing Over Talents

3.1 The Anointing Brings Transformation: While talents can impress people, it is the anointing that brings transformation. It is the anointing that breaks yokes, heals the sick, and sets the captives free. It is the anointing that changes lives and brings glory to God. Isaiah 10:27

3.2 The Anointing Validates our Service: Our talents and abilities, no matter how impressive, do not validate our service to God. It is the anointing that validates our service, because it is the evidence of God's approval and empowerment. Acts 1:8

4. Cultivating the Anointing

4.1 Pursuing Intimacy with God: The anointing is not a commodity to be bought or earned, but a gift to be received from God. It comes as we pursue intimacy with God, spending time in His presence, seeking His face, and desiring His will above all else. James 4:8

4.2 Walking in Obedience: The anointing is not given to those who are disobedient or rebellious, but to those who walk in obedience to God's Word. As we obey God's commands and submit to His authority, we position ourselves to receive His anointing. 1 Samuel 15:22

4.3 Serving Others: The anointing is not for our personal benefit, but for the benefit of others. As we serve others in love and humility, we demonstrate the character of Christ and make room for the anointing to flow. Mark 10:45
